Hyles explores the ambigious and abstract forms created through the movement, reflection and refraction of light as it engages with her immediate environments. By utilising the processes of drawing, digital manipulation and sculptural collage, she maps the situations of light as it forms a dialogue with the material surfaces of everyday architectural surroundings.
‘Seeing is believing, or is it?’ Sumner’s work leads us to question whether reality is ‘real’. The artist uses scientific theories exploring physicality, which some suggest is made up of sub-atomic harmonies existing in more than one place at a time, hence physicality from a state of flux.
The artist explores digital processes regarding audio, dividing an apparently single sound into a potentially limitless number of events, questioning the electronic opposed to the physical and reiterating observations of a singular mediated occurrence.
